Encouraging Truths Devotional Series (Day #5)

You are blessed with EVERY spiritual blessing (Eph 1:3)

Life on planet earth can get tough at times … very tough. Don’t forget that this is not your everlasting home … Heaven, and then ultimately the New Heaven and Earth is. Don’t lose sight of the fact that you have UNIMAGINABLE blessings waiting for you in Heaven as a Christ-follower.

Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens. (Eph 1:3)

Look at this verse again and carefully pay attention to the details:

  • Types of blessings are spiritual – Spiritual blessings are FAR more valuable than physical blessings. I would far prefer God changing my heart than building my bank account. 
  • Location of the blessings is in Heaven – This means they are eternal blessings and can’t be lost, stolen, or destroyed. They will be enjoyed forever.
  • Quantity of the blessings is EVERY one – The Lord will not hold back any spiritual blessing from us once we are in Heaven. 
  • In Christ – Jesus died a horrible death to make it possible for us to become His children. We receive these blessings because we are God’s children through our faith in Christ. The blessings are not earned by our own efforts but through Jesus and therefore can’t be lost. Also, since these blessings are through Jesus they are perfect blessings. 

So, the type of blessings are spiritual, the location is Heaven and the New Heaven and Earth, the duration is eternal, the quantity is infinite, the quality is perfect, and they are not dependent on us. God CHOSE to pour them out on us out of His love (Eph 1:4-5; 2:4), mercy (Eph 2:4), favor (Eph 1:4-5), and grace (Eph 1:6-7; 2:8-9).

Think about the blessings waiting for you. Keep them in mind to get through the tough times here. 

Due to true faith, Scripture tells true Christ-followers we have a “first installment” (see Ephesians 1:13-14), or sometimes called a foretaste, via the indwelling Holy Spirit of our inheritance and blessings to come. Isn’t that a wonderful gift to have from God while still being here on earth awaiting our face-to-face meeting with Jesus?

I realize it is hard to imagine Heaven and the blessings that are waiting for you. I find it difficult too. But there is one blessing I can at least partially understand and I hold onto it for dear life … Jesus will wipe away my last tear and I will be with Him forever! 

Look! God’s dwelling is with humanity, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will no longer exist; grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer, because the previous things have passed away. (Rev 21:3-4)

If you can’t grasp any other blessing in Heaven hold onto that one to get through the tough times here. He will personally wipe away your last tear! 

Bow your heart and get on your knees to thank, praise, honor, and truly appreciate the great blessings in Heaven that God is giving you out of His mercy and kindness!
