Encouraging Truths Devotional Series (Day #12)
God Will Meet Your Needs Even if it Seems Impossible (1 Ki 17:5-6)
And the word of the Lord came to him (Elijah): “Depart from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. You shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” So he went and did according to the word of the Lord. He went and lived by the brook Cherith that is east of the Jordan. And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. (1 Ki 17:2-6)
Worrying about the necessities of life like food, shelter, and clothes is a common problem to all of us. We worry about losing our jobs; making ends meet during retirement; and our bank accounts … etc. It doesn’t matter if you’re poor or wealthy; you probably worry about provisions and money at some point in time. I suppose that’s why Jesus covered the topic so thoroughly:
“… Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear … Look at the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? … And why do you worry about clothes? Learn how the wildflowers of the field grow: they don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these! If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t He do much more for you—you of little faith? So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the idolaters eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Mt 6:25-34)
Elijah’s experience by the brook in the ravine shows us that God CAN and WILL provide for us regardless of the situation. Here he was living in a ravine drinking from the stream and being brought food to eat by ravens! God provided for Him in a supernatural way showing that God can and will provide for you too. Remember how He provided for the Israelites in the desert with food from Heaven (Ex 16) and water from a rock (Ex 17)! God loves you and will do the impossible to take care of you!
You are God’s child and He promised to provide for you. Trust Him, He will provide … even if it seems impossible.
“Look, I am Yahweh, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” (Jer 32:27)
I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned or His children begging for bread. (Ps 37:25)
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Php 4:19)
When I am afraid, I will trust in You. (Ps 56:3)
