From Premarital Counseling to Lifelong Discipleship: How Steve’s Guidance Transformed Our Walk with Christ
A little over a year ago, I remember texting Steve. My message went something like this: “Hi Mr. Steve! My name is ___, and ___ just gave me your contact information. My fiancé and I are in dire need of premarital counseling.” Although there were other details in that message, this was the key point. Steve kindly responded and let me know his availability.
Now, over a year and a half later, I find that my need for a counselor has changed. With Steve, it wasn’t just counseling; we were being discipled. One of the most important lessons I learned about discipleship is that while I may know a lot about my faith, faith isn’t just about knowledge—it’s about transformation.
During one of our sessions, I jokingly but sincerely said, “Steve, you’re a people’s pastor.” He chuckled, but it’s true. I saw his love for people and his dedication to helping the next generation grow in Christ. I admire his deep understanding of the Bible and his constant encouragement to focus on Jesus, even when my fiancé (now husband) and I were in disagreement. Steve’s guidance helped me grow in my walk with Christ, prompting me to look to Scripture rather than just following my own feelings.
One verse Steve often reminded us of was Ephesians 4:32: “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
My husband and I are still being discipled through Steve, even almost a year into our marriage. We have both enjoyed every minute of it. It doesn’t matter whether you’re in the early months of engagement or a year into marriage—we all need discipleship. We are incredibly thankful for all that Steve does to bless us in our walk with Christ. Thank you, Steve, for being real, authentic, and sincere. We highly recommend reaching out to him if you’re looking for a people’s pastor, a mentor, and genuine discipleship.
